Where are you from?

Bee Daws and I am based in Bristol, England.

What is your favorite theater?

My favourite all time live theatre show is a tough one. Because of my love of puppeteering and how beautifully HandSpring Theatre Company produced their shows, I would have to say War Horse. The puppeteering in this show is just stunning, and the construction of the puppets is just beautiful and very inspiring.

What is Effigy?

Our company 'Effigy' are currently looking at venues to tour our show 'Everything but the kitchen sink.' We have already performed a few times in Cornwall and are looking to branch out across to UK and then into Europe. We are in the process of creating 2 new shows that look at object manipulation as well as hand-made puppets. We produce and write all of our shows, using our skills from our degrees to help devise and compose exciting and engaging productions. All our puppets are created by each Effigy Theatre member at their own home or in a rented studio or workshop, using materials such as everyday found objects, foam, felt, wires, magazines, curtains, cushions etc. All our puppets are fixed together using a hot glue gun or sewing machine.

What advice can you give to new comers starting their own business?

The big advice I would give anyone starting in puppetry and theatre is to attend everything you can. Talk to everyone you can possible talk to because you never know who you are going to meet. Go to talks and feed your brain with information, go to workshops to learn new skills and make friends as well as important networks. But the most important advice I would give it to simple play. Play everyday with theatre and puppeteering and write all the things down you create and find out about just playing. It's important to have fun in puppeteering and through that you can create beautiful and wonderful things.

How did you get into Puppetry?

From a young age I have loved puppetry. I was always playing with toys and putting on shows, manipulating them and making different characters. I was always a very good sewer and had made costumes and toys in the past, but it was always a hobby, never anything to pursue. It was only until University that I re-ignited this puppetry passion of mine-making and performing.

How did you get into Puppetry?

For my final year of University in Falmouth, Cornwall, England. I co-directed, produced and starred in our companies puppetry production. I made my own costume, with help from our set and costume designer and made some of the puppets within our show. From then on, I started joining networks of puppeteers, we started using the social media to get our names out there; attending events and workshops to learn and grow. From there made a personal website, and from there I have been contacted to make puppets, run workshops, help with small puppeteering projects and perform our companies show.
